Teaching longboarding as a way to build leadership and camaraderie
At the start of our first Beyond the Board longboard tour in 2021, we had the opportunity to partner with the local Boys and Girls club in Kennewick, WA.
We know how important developing a positive and supportive learning environment is for these children so we shifted our approach slightly. We paired the kids up with a buddy for the session and focused on teaching them how to teach each other rather than focusing on the skills alone.
“It’s really great to see the kids come together to help each other so it’s not always the staff stepping in. The kids kind of step in to help each and it helps them build those relationship skills in being a leader.” – Grace Baird, Youth Development Professional
“Last summer our Kennewick Boys & Girls Club was given the opportunity to host Brandon and his crew on there summer tour and man they didn’t disappoint. Most of our members that attend our location have few opportunities to experience something like his program. Through Brandon’s program it gave our members an experience they will never forget, some will even say it gave them a sense of belonging. Beyond the Board is a great way people to see a different side of themselves, and helps them find new joy in the little things. I myself loved seeing the passion, and grit Brandon and his crew showed. When people like Brandon take time to give back to those who are less fortunate it means the world. We will always be grateful to Beyond the Board tour for making its way through Kennewick, and we would gladly have them back anytime.”

Much love to Jonathan Kimsey and the team at the Boys and Girls Club. We can’t wait to partner with more youth groups in the near future!
